Head Interpreter  -  John Boley
My 19 years of experience in Japan = Interpretation you can trust!

Profile

Born and raised in the United States.  I have spent nearly half of my life living and working in Japan, beginning with
two years of volunteer service in Japan during 1988-1989.
I returned once to the US, only to come back to Japan
in early 1993.  Since then I have worked in several positions in city offices, corporations, English schools, etc.
In 2005 I decided to put my experience in Japan and my Japanese ablity to more appropriate use so I moved to Fukuoka
and began working as a freelance interpreter. Shortly thereafter, in 2006 I joined Samurai Interpreters where
I currently work as a translator and the Head of the Interpreting Section.

I learned Japanese much the same as a child learns, by living and working in Japan. Therefore it is not "textbook"
Japanese, but rather "living" Japanese. On the telephone, I am mistaken for a Japanese nine times out of ten!

As my mother tongue is English, and I have 19 years experience in Japan, I am able to perform
interpretation both to and from Japanese, that not only conveys the words being spoken, but also the subtle nuances that
are essential in conveying meaning cross-culturally. I work mainly with consecutive interpretation, but have also worked with
whispering interpretation and have done some voice-over work.
